HVS states that it is a long way “no longer engaged” with Skullgirls Mobile, 2nd Encore, or “other projects related to Skullgirls IP.”

Hidden Variable declared that as of January 21, 2025, it was previously “no longer engaged in the creation of Skullgirls Mobile, 2nd Encore” due to a “disagreement with Autumn Games.”

In a statement, Hidden Variable revealed that the disagreement has now been officially filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Court documents suggested that Hidden Variable is pursuing legal action against Autumn Games for alleged violation of contract and anticipatory breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and for services and products provided.

Hidden Variable asserts that it has met the obligations of its contract, while Autumn has failed to comply, withholding a payment of $131,500 due in November 2024, and subsequent payments on November 15, December 1, December 15, January 1, and January 15, along with around $15,000 in expenses.

An additional $139,000 was expected on February 1 and again on February 15, March 1, and March 15, 2025.

Hidden Variable is now seeking $1,227,308.98 that it claims is owed, plus interest.

HVS stated that it gave Autumn Games until January 21, 2025, to resolve its payments. When the payments did not arrive, however, Hidden Variable “provided Autumn with all the account login details necessary to continue offering community support for the game […] to avoid harming the game.”

“Everyone at HVS is extremely proud of the over 10 years we’ve dedicated to Skullgirls in all its iterations, including developing and supporting Skullgirls Mobile, introducing new characters and platforms for Skullgirls 2nd Encore, backing the competitive community through the Skullgirls Championship Series, and helping both new and longtime fans connect with the IP through the Skullgirls Webtoon and various other collaborations,” the statement noted.

“Most importantly, we’re thankful to have had the chance to celebrate…
