Three years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5‘s Enhanced & Expanded version on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the next-generation features have finally transitioned to PC in a complimentary update for all new users, just as Rockstar assured last month.

Effective immediately, Grand Theft Auto 5 Legacy (as the original PC version is now called) has been removed from PC storefronts to make way for GTA 5 Enhanced. According to Rockstar’s announcement, this updated edition introduces a variety of features, such as new vehicles, new wildlife, and support for Rockstar’s GTA+ subscription service.

Additionally, it incorporates new graphical options, including the ray-traced shadows and reflections first seen on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, along with other enhancements such as ambient occlusion and global illumination unique to PC. This also includes support for higher resolutions, wider aspect ratios, and improved framerates, as well as support for AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS, with Body Generation support expected at a later date.

Moreover, owners of the DualSense controller can now utilize its adaptive triggers during gameplay, and Rockstar is highlighting quicker load times via SSD and DirectStorage, as well as enhanced audio – including Dolby Atmos, and improved quality of dialogue, cinematics, and music.

For Grand Theft Auto Online players, the updated PC version now includes kernel-based anti-cheat measures and proactive chat moderation, along with the introduction of new vehicles, Chameleon Paints, and high-performance mods from Hao’s Special Works.

All of this comes alongside a revised set of minimum and recommended PC specifications; however, those unable to meet these increased requirements can still access Grand Theft Auto 5 Legacy via the game launcher. Keep in mind that the two versions are considered entirely separate, meaning friends will still need to use the same version if they wish to play together. Additionally, it is important to transfer Epic Mode and Online progress to the new version.

To coincide with the launch of GTA 5 Enhanced, Rockstar has reduced the game price by 50 percent on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, lowering the price to £14.99 until March 20th.

This PC release comes as Rockstar prepares to unveil GTA 6 this fall—though creator Take-Two has hinted at its significance to the platform.
