Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 had a successful launch last fall, but that doesn’t imply its most loyal fans love everything about it. Many enthusiasts have been quite vocal against the notion of Space Marines 2 becoming a live-service title, especially after Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive hinted at community events being a primary way to earn exclusive items available for a limited duration. The backlash has been so substantial that Focus has apologized to fans, assuring them that a live-service shift is not truly on the horizon for Space Marines 2.
In this week’s community update, Focus Entertainment provided the following statement: “We have recognized that the Community Events have received mixed reactions since we announced them as an additional method to unlock cosmetic items. We noted that many of you expressed concerns about the FOMO generated by the events. Please be assured, we do not plan to turn Space Marine 2 into a complete live-service game. The items accessible through events WILL be available later to everyone. We desire Community Events to serve as a way to unlock items ahead of time for the most passionate players, rather than becoming a source of frustration and anxiety for all.
“However, we acknowledge that we need to offer a more enjoyable experience for unlocking said items, which has not been the case thus far. We sincerely apologize for the situation and are currently working on a streamlined process for releasing the items to make the experience less restrictive.”
As a gesture of goodwill to fans, the unbranded Mk VIII Errant Helmet will now be available for free to all players.
