Metro Dev 4A Games Transforms into Reburn: Unveiling an Exciting New Game Experience
Ukrainian studio 4A Video Games has adopted a fresh identity along with its new game. Currently, the Metro developer is now named Reburn, and its “debut” project is the sci-fi shooter La Quimera.
In an announcement to the press, CEO Dmytro Lymar clarified that the name change was intended to avoid confusion with the Maltese team that had the same name and is also owned by Embracer. The studio relocated its headquarters to Malta in 2014 during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Lymar also believed it was appropriate to leave the original 4A name with the Metro series following its final mainline installment, 2019’s Metro: Exodus. “For the new intellectual property, we wanted to create an entirely new brand,” he stated. “The name [‘Reburn’] signifies ‘burning again,’ but for us, it symbolizes rebirth or reincarnation in a new format, aimed at developing a new game with our unique IP.”
La Quimera is a typical property for the studio—its second project after the Oculus Rift title Arktika.1—and is currently scheduled for a Steam release. In a shift from its previous projects, the game will offer both single-player and three-player co-op modes. Lead design developer Kostiuk Oleksandr informed Polygon that the game’s technology “enables us to seamlessly meld in new gameplay elements,” and its sci-fi setting will provide a change of pace for long-time creators at Reburn.
“We’ve long aspired to design an adventure that players could enjoy both solo and with friends,” he expressed. “We also wanted to move away from the post-apocalyptic themes of the post-Soviet environment. Some team members have been engaged in that genre for nearly 15 years—or even longer, tracing back to the original STALKER.”

Numerous developers have undergone rebranding in recent months, often indicating some form of paradigm shift. Halo Studios‘ name change encompassed a transition away from the series’ Slipspace Engine to Unreal with the aim of releasing more Halo game projects at a steadier rate.
When a developer alters its name, it typically aims to elevate its growing business or ambitions to become a more significant player in the industry.
More frequently, it is the game itself that is receiving the rebranding—and such changes often seek to clarify what it pertains to. IO Interactive’s Hitman: World of Assassination makes more sense than Hitman III as it encompasses the entire reboot trilogy and subsequent DLC in a unified package, after all.
