GOG is taking measures to commemorate the legacy of Wonder Girl and Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Productions following the studio’s unexpected shutdown this week. They are fast-tracking the inclusion of the 2005 horror-themed FPS FEAR into their game preservation program and significantly reducing its price to just $1 for a limited time.

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. announced the closure of Monolith, MultiVersus developer Player First Games, and the mobile-focused studio WB San Diego. They also canceled the Wonder Girl game entirely. This was one of the more severe cutbacks we have witnessed during a particularly turbulent time for the gaming industry.

In a likely response, GOG took to social media to announce that FEAR will be added to their preservation program “by next month.” The highly regarded FPS had been initially set to join this program at an unspecified “later date,” but GOG “opted to expedite this release to honor Monolith’s contributions to gaming.”

“At GOG, we are committed to celebrating the creative talents that have influenced gaming history,” reads a tweet from GOG. “Monolith Productions has provided players with some of the most memorable experiences, merging innovative gameplay with compelling narratives. To pay tribute to their legacy, we are excited to announce that F.E.A.R. Platinum will be joining the GOG Preservation Program – and sooner than anticipated.”

GOG also hinted that “more Monolith classics” are part of their preservation plans, though they did not divulge any details.

For those unfamiliar, GOG’s preservation program aims to ensure that “classic games remain playable on contemporary systems, even after their developers have ceased support.” Generally, the collection features DRM-free versions of classic PC games, allowing you to enjoy them freely.
