While we are still awaiting a definitive release date, preorders are available for $50 at Amazon.
Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy
$50 | TBA 2025
Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy is a top-down dungeon crawling RPG where players explore randomly created dungeons as Fia, fighting against monsters—including the famous Puyo blobs—and enhancing Fia’s skills. The other half of the game is set in a magic academy that serves as a town center where players interact with NPCs, engage in mini-games, craft weapons, and more. The game will present English and French text options, alongside Japanese voice acting.
The standard edition of Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy is the only version of the game confirmed thus far, and the physical version will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4. Digital preorders are also open on the PlayStation Store, Switch eShop, and Steam.
Mado Monogatari is a longstanding dungeon crawling RPG series that originated in 1990 on the MSX and PC-98. The series began as a traditional first-person dungeon crawler, akin to other classic RPGs like Wizardry and Shin Megami Tensei, but various entries have experimented with different forms of dungeon exploration, including Fia and the Wondrous Academy’s top-down Mystery Dungeon-style gameplay. Despite being active for over thirty years, Fia and the Wondrous Academy is just the second Mado Monogatari game to receive an English localization. The previous installment in the series, Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God, was also released in North America on Vita in 2014 and then ported to PC in 2018. Similar to Fia and the Wondrous Academy, Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God is also a top-down roguelike mystery dungeon with procedurally generated dungeons. If you wish to check it out, you can grab it for $20 on Steam.
