The Golden Idol Chronicles: Unveiling the Mysteries of the Upcoming DLC Investigation
If you have already snapped up the impressive sequel to developer Color Gray Games, The Rise of the Golden Idol, you will be pleased to learn that The Sins of Contemporary Wells – the first of its earlier announced post-launch DLC episodes – is set to release this March.
The Rise of the Golden Idol, in case you are unfamiliar, transitions the investigative style of its 2022 predecessor from the 18th Century to the 1970s. Eurogamer praised its 20 fresh scenarios sufficiently to label it a “captivating modern mystery thriller” in our four-star review last year.
Before its launch, Color Gray Games confirmed that The Rise of the Golden Idol will receive a paid Detective Pass, granting access to four additional stand-alone DLC Investigations throughout 2025 – each containing “at least” four new scenarios. We now know that the initial one, The Sins of Contemporary Wells, is arriving in March.
The Rise of the Golden Idol launch date trailer.
“Homicide investigator [REDACTED] has been reassigned to the [REDACTED],” the studio details in its announcement, “where corruption runs as deep as the sewage beneath New Wells. Here, crime is the norm. However, as he and his new partner, Cliff Savea, delve into a series of violent offenses, they become entangled in something far more sinister…Lemurian magic.”
And if that piques your interest, The Sins of Contemporary Wells will be available as part of the aforementioned content.
