The Halo: Flashpoint tabletop miniatures game was launched last autumn; however, unless you ordered in advance months ago, the officially sanctioned wargame has been difficult to find in stock. British board game publisher Mantic opened up preorders for a second wave of units when Halo: Flashpoint rolled out, though availability continues to seem quite limited. As of February 25, Halo enthusiasts in the US can still preorder Halo: Flashpoint’s Spartan Edition from Amazon for $118 (was $125). Amazon indicates February 28 as the launch date for the second wave, although timelines and prices may differ by retailer and location since Flashpoint is officially an import.
Alternatively, you can also acquire the Recon Edition for $57 at Amazon. Halo: Flashpoint’s Recon Edition has an MSRP of about $75, making it a pretty good deal. However, it’s important to note that stock is limited, and while Flashpoint ships directly from Amazon, it is currently only sold by third-party sellers in the US. The Recon Edition is a more streamlined version of the game with fewer miniatures, cards, and terrain elements.
Flashpoint is a skirmish game that allows players to form teams of Halo Spartans or Banished Elites and engage in tactical turn-based conflicts. Players familiar with similar wargames such as Warhammer 40,000—notably the smaller-scale Killteam format—will find Halo: Flashpoint’s concept and mechanics familiar, though the game’s developer, Mantic Entertainment, has tailored it to be accessible for newcomers.
This is what you can expect in the box of the Spartan Edition. The Spartan miniatures come in red and blue—you will receive eight of each color—yet you can also customize them with more intricate designs atop these base colors. The four Banished Elites are grey right out of the box.
Halo: Flashpoint Rulebook

The Recon Edition includes everything you need to start enjoying a faster-paced, simpler version of Flashpoint. This edition does not feature the Banished Elites, meaning you will engage in battles between Red and Blue factions only, with each player receiving four Spartan miniatures. The Recon Edition offers approximately half the number of Weapon, Player, and Reference cards compared to its counterpart.
Similar to the Spartan Edition, the Recon Edition provides a double-sided playmat, but it features fewer terrain components to set up and is confined to ground skirmishes. In contrast, the Spartan Edition includes various multi-level terrain elements.
