“We are going to provide Fable additional time”

During a recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, former head of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan, declared that Microsoft’s Fable reboot has been postponed.

Initially set for a 2025 release, Playground Games’ first attempt at the Xbox fantasy RPG will now arrive in 2026. Duncan indicated that the delay will likely be “worth the wait.”

“We previously set the release date for Fable as 2025, and we are now going to allow Fable more time, so it will launch in 2026. While I understand this might not be the announcement everyone was hoping for, I want to reassure everyone that it will definitely be worth the wait.”

Duncan expressed that he and Xbox “have complete confidence in the Playground team” to realize the vision for Fable, with their “incredible gameplay” and “British wit” being integrated into a brand-new RPG adventure.

“What they are contributing to the Fable franchise is truly impressive—expect the stunning visuals that Playground Games is known for, combined with extraordinary gameplay, British humor, and Playground’s unique take on Albion. We are inspired by the legacy of the franchise while also adding their own flavor. Quite frankly, it’s the most beautifully designed version of Albion you have ever seen.

So, I’m genuinely passionate about their plans and truly excited for the future. I want the community to understand that we make these decisions for the betterment of the games, the teams, and ultimately, that leads to the best games—or the best game for the community.”
