In light of the recent surge in popularity for the TCG, GameStop has declared the discontinuation of pre-orders. This implies that they will enforce purchase limitations in-store on selected SKUs. Here is the official statement, along with the reasoning behind this decision:

“GameStop will cease offering pre-orders for Pokémon TCG products, and will be putting purchase limits on select SKUs. Our aim is to ensure that more fans have the chance to enjoy these thrilling releases, rather than restricting access to early purchasers and resellers.”

It remains uncertain if this policy will change in the future, and it appears that fans with existing pre-orders may not be affected.

The site PokeBeach has notably shared a fragment of an internal GameStop memo that includes the idea of distributing Pokémon TCG stock “directly to stores to boost in-store traffic”.

The same source also consulted with a “longtime store manager” who reportedly shared the following insight regarding Pokémon TCG sales at GameStop:
