PS5 Pro Sales Mirror the PS4 Pro’s Struggles in the U.S.
Data evaluation further indicates “double-digit percentage drops” across all primary consoles.
The performance of PS5 Pro sales in the US has “lagged behind” that of the PS4 Pro.
This comes from games market analyst Mat Piscatella, who utilized Circana data to illustrate that while the PS5 Pro had a strong launch, the hardware sales in January 2025 in the US were 45 percent lower compared to the same timeframe a year earlier.
Indeed, Piscatella argues that there were “double-digit percentage drops” across all major gaming platforms in comparison to a year ago, with PS5 hardware sales decreasing by 38 percent year-on-year, Xbox Series falling by 50 percent, and Switch by 53 percent.
The latter, however, may be due to players holding out for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Earlier this month, as part of its financial report to investors, Sony confirmed that sales of its PS5 console have reached 75 million units, which is notably lower than PS4 sales during a similar timeframe.
PS5 Pro has fallen behind the sales pace of PS4 Pro.
Digital SKUs represented 49% of PS5 hardware sales in January and 88% of Xbox Series sales.

On a different note, Sony opted not to disclose console sales figures in this report, making it challenging to distinguish PS5 Pro sales from the overall console figures. This complicates the task of determining whether the PS5 Pro’s high price point has deterred gamers who might typically upgrade their hardware mid-cycle.
That said, the PlayStation 5 was once again the top-selling hardware platform of the month in terms of both units sold and revenue generated. The Xbox Series ranked second in hardware expenditures, though the Nintendo Switch slightly surpassed Xbox Series.
