If you’re a dedicated Microsoft Rewards user, you may find joy in encountering the “auto redeem” feature for Xbox and PC Game Pass sometime soon – a valuable tool for keeping your subscription active without shelling out cash (or anything at all!).
Unfortunately, some Microsoft Rewards members have received emails suggesting that a price hike may be on the horizon and it could affect more than just “auto redeem” users. The email disclosed that the price increase is expected around April 20, 2025 and indicated that the current auto redeem options will likely be changing, requiring users to re-subscribe to the new version(s) on that date.
Before we delve into additional details, here’s a brief overview of the email that’s circulating:
Looking at the “redeem” aspect of Microsoft Rewards here in the UK, the existing cost for redeeming a one-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for 12k points and PC Game Pass for 7.75k points remains unchanged as part of the “auto redeem” feature, but two new tiers have just emerged for 17k and 10.5k points respectively.
In summary, it appears that in the UK, the cost for 1 month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will rise from 12k points to 17k points, while 1 month of PC Game Pass will increase from 7.75k points to 10.5k points. We suspect that the non-auto redeem options will also rise to at least 17k and 10.5k points in late April as part of this shift.
Note: The points totals mentioned above are specific to ‘Level 2’ users – these values are slightly higher for Level 1 participants. Level 2 generally means you receive a better return by engaging with the service more frequently. It’s complicated, we know!
Clearly, all of this is location-dependent and may not affect your area, but it certainly does appear to be quite widespread. If these are indeed the new prices, it would be a setback for “auto redeem” users in particular since accumulating 17k points in a month is notably challenging as things are right now – in fact, we’re not entirely convinced it’s feasible at all!
Let’s hope we receive further clarification on this matter soon – we will keep you informed if and when that happens.
