Celebrating 45 Years of Innovation: The Legacy of HAL Laboratory

Prepare a last-minute cake and bring out the candles because we have a significant birthday to celebrate today, everyone. HAL Laboratory, the studio behind Kirby, the original Smash Bros., EarthBound, and a whole host of other gems that we will explore shortly, has turned 45 today.

Indeed, on the 21st of February in 1980, Mitsuhiro Ikeda established HAL with the intent of developing games for home computers. Just four years later, Nintendo launched a little device called the Famicom, marking the beginning of a new collaboration from which we are still benefiting even today.
