“Introducing Batman #1: A Dazzling Reimagining with Iconic Elements and a Sleek New Batmobile”
DC is uniting the talented team of writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez for an exciting relaunch of Batman. A brand new Batman #1 is set to debut this September, featuring a nostalgic blue and grey outfit, a redesigned Batmobile, and “all the elements that make Batman the most intriguing character in comics.”
Fraction and Jiménez are accompanied by colorist Tomeu Morey and letterer Clayton Cowles for this series revival, which, according to a statement from DC, will offer “connected yet self-contained narratives.” The specific details of these stories remain confidential for now, but you can get a glimpse of several unlettered interior pages by Jiménez and Morey, as well as Jiménez’s cover artwork and character design concepts in the gallery below.
The most striking aspect of the artwork is Batman’s new costume, which pays homage to the Caped Crusader’s classic blue and grey color scheme. The artwork also hints at what DC describes as “a new perspective on Gotham City.” We’re also expecting a new Batmobile, although we’ll have to wait for our first look at that.
“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Batman. It was the first comic I ever picked up,” Fraction states in the press release. “Jorge and I have a very superhero-centric approach to Batman. We have a new Batmobile, a new costume, new characters, and we’re bringing back many familiar faces – both heroes and villains; everything that contributes to Batman being the most fascinating character in comics. We want to highlight it all.”
“For this upcoming chapter, we’re creating a refreshed aesthetic, reintroducing Batman’s blue suit in a significant manner,” Jiménez adds. “It’s a subtle shift that aims to feel both traditional and modern, evolving slightly while honoring the original design we’ve utilized in recent years. Concurrently, I’m reimagining Gotham City’s visual identity, providing a new interpretation that distinguishes it from my past work. My goal is to incorporate a slight pop influence, subtly alluding to classic narratives while preserving the dark and foreboding essence of contemporary Batman.”
Batman #1 is scheduled for release this September. The latest Batman series will continue in issue #158 on March 26, featuring the creative team of Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, and Richard Starkings, who will take over for a sequel to undoubtedly one of the most
