Developer MachineGames’ precise enhancement of last year’s remarkable Indiana Jones and the Great Circle continues today with the rollout of a significant third update for the celebrated third-person action-adventure. This update introduces support for a range of newest graphic technologies on PC – including DLSS 4 – as well as an extensive array of bug fixes and improvements.

To begin with the graphic features, DLSS 4 support brings PC gamers access to technologies such as transformer-based Multi Frame Technology, Ray Reconstruction, and updated versions of DLAA and DLSS Ultra Resolution – provided their hardware is compatible.

Update 3 also introduces a new option for ray-traced shadows that leverages all light sources within a player’s environment (instead of just the sun) when Ray Tracing is activated. Additionally, Ray Tracing is now available on Intel and AMD GPUs, with support for AMD 3.1 upscaling and frame generation, as well as Intel XESS 1.4 upscaling.

Beyond the PC-specific enhancements, players across all platforms receive an extensive set of quality of life improvements and bug fixes. Repair kits can, for instance, now be utilized directly from the inventory, rather than only after selecting a damaged weapon or tool.

As for what’s on the horizon, aside from the unspecified PS5 release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, MachineGames mentions that Nvidia RTX hair support is forthcoming in a future update, and they are also exploring the possibility of incorporating community-requested features such as HUD customization.

Of course, if you’ve read all this and still do not know what Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is, allow me to direct you to Eurogamer’s in-depth review, which described it as a “stealth action triumph” and a “bold new chapter for MachineGames”. This was before we named it our Game of 2024 as well. Lastly, here are the patch notes for Update 3 (spoilers ahead):

General

  • Resolved an issue where players were unable to use ladders, squeeze through walls, or climb vines in Sukhothai, specifically during the Blessed Pearl mission.
  • Fixed a problem that could prevent players from picking up specific capsule bottles in the Vatican.
  • Addressed a concern that could quickly stop players from being able to punch or block after picking up an item while the game was saving.
  • Corrected an issue where the camera could become stuck in third person when exiting certain third-person interactions.
  • Fixed a problem where players and enemies might take damage while walking through an open doorway after restarting a checkpoint.
  • Resolved an issue where notes could clip through the front of the screen when examining them.
  • Fixed a problem where players might accidentally drop their Camera or Lighter while inspecting objects for pickup.
  • Resolved an issue that could make objects disappear if players attempted to collect them while vaulting over other objects.
  • Fixed a problem where inspectable items could be lost if picked up at the same moment an enemy hit you.
  • Corrected an issue that could cause the “Restricted Area” HUD marker to misalign after restarting a checkpoint.
  • Resolved a problem where camera shake would inexplicably occur when revisiting Gizeh.
  • Addressed an issue where a bullet could be seen in the Luger chamber even when the gun was empty.
  • Fixed a problem where players might pour wine from their Camera within the Five Sacred Wounds puzzle.
  • Corrected a concern where the player’s view would be tilted after being released from a whip pull by Voss.
  • Fixed a problem that caused enemy soldiers leaning on objects to move unnaturally when alerted by the player.

Graphics

  • Corrected visual issues where animation frame rates varied during some cutscenes, causing observable shaking or stuttering.
  • Resolved an issue where pouring water streams were not visible during the initial collapse of the Ziggurat in Sukhothai.
  • Fixed a problem that allowed players to see outside the world in the Vatican Dig Site.

Missions and Quests

  • Fixed a problem where players could not take a photo of Uncle Sunan when revisiting Sukhothai, or after skipping a cutscene between Sunan and Pailin.
  • Resolved an issue that could hinder the collection of the ‘Fried Egg’ Field Mask in Sukhothai, and the Ostracan Shard in Gizeh after restarting checkpoints.
  • Corrected a problem that could prevent players from turning in Radio Frequencies at the radio stations when revisiting Sukhothai (as Gina would not be present).
  • Fixed a problem preventing players from unlocking the “Shadows out of Time” achievement if they had any Ancient Relics on the Puzzle Boards in Iraq. (i.e., if players did not have all 50 Relics in their inventory.) For players who have already completed the puzzle, simply revisiting Iraq will now unlock the achievement.
  • Corrected an issue where collecting the last ancient relic for “Riddles of the Ancients” did not update the counter in the UI, suggesting that another remained to collect. Also updated so this mission now has a description in your map data, and specific Ancient Relic markers now appear on the Sukhothai and Vatican maps.
  • Resolved a problem that could prevent players from re-collecting Khmer Cogs if they changed the puzzle difficulty after solving the Khmer Gate puzzle.
  • Fixed a problem where players could obtain the rebreather in Sukhothai before even having the chance to meet Tongdang, causing them to miss the next mission objective.
  • Corrected an issue where Field Notes might still be tracked even if all notes had been collected.
  • Addressed various situations where unnecessary display markers would appear underneath the map.
  • Fixed a problem where Adventure Books were not displayed on the map after acquiring the Ziggurat Book in Iraq.
  • Resolved a problem where Capability Book and guide markers appeared on the Sukhothai map before players received the guides from Tongdang.
  • Corrected an issue where certain map markers near the end of the Vatican stage were not visible on the initial map, but only on your local map.
  • Resolved a problem where shooting the monkey posters in Sukhothai did not remove their in-world markers.
  • Corrected a problem where the cogwheel markers could become invisible if players obtained the map data pamphlet after a certain point in Sukhothai.
  • Fixed an issue where the first important map in Sukhothai could be lost if you identified it down after examining it (rather than picking it up).
  • Resolved a problem where Gina would not leave Wat Si Sawai if you exited the temple while she was conversing with Aran.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent the desk drawer from being opened in the poker tent in Gizeh.
  • Addressed a problem where Gina could open the cavern door in Iraq on her own, resulting in the cavern being devoid of enemies.
  • Added additional
