During the championship weekend of the Six Invitational, Ubisoft revealed that they will unveil a new era of Rainbow Six Siege on March 13 at the Siege X Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. A new attacker operator named Rauora, from New Zealand, will also be introduced to Rainbow Six Siege.
The teaser for this significant upcoming Siege update refers to it as the game’s “largest transformation” yet. This will likely include enhancements in both graphics and audio, along with “enhanced tactical gameplay,” though specific details were not disclosed. Additionally, Ubisoft indicated that there will be “new ways to play,” but did not clarify whether this would come in the form of new game modes or other features.
Rauora will be playable at the start of the upcoming Year 10 Season 1 as part of the Operation Prep Phase battle pass, and will be unlockable with Renown or R6 credits after a two-week period.
Equipped with the 417 designated marksman rifle or the M249 light machine gun as her primary weapon, Rauora also has the GSH-18 9mm pistol or the new Reaper MK2 machine pistol as her secondary weapon. The latter features a red dot sight and an extended magazine. Her unique gadget is the Deployable Omnilink Mesh Launcher, or DOM. It serves as a bulletproof barrier that can only be placed in doorways and extends fully to the ground. As an innovative shield, DOM can detect nearby ally drones and allows them to pass through by elevating itself.
DOM is also equipped with a trigger on the top that any operator can activate by shooting it. While both attackers and defenders have the ability to open and close the barrier, attackers enjoy certain advantages. Defenders will temporarily be locked out when the barrier is first deployed or after it has just closed, and only the presence of an attacker will reopen it. It additionally opens much faster when triggered by an attacker.
Although Rauora’s barriers are bulletproof, they remain vulnerable to explosive damage. They cannot destroy Fortress’s reinforced barricades if already deployed or if Tubarão’s Zoto Canister is active. Jäger’s ADS system can also eliminate DOM before it has a chance to deploy.
Rainbow Six Siege was launched in 2015 and has become one of Ubisoft’s most notable titles.
