The Evolution of Bloodborne: A Journey from Concept to Cult Classic

At this moment, these expressions no longer require uttering, though I understand some individuals out there may desire to hear them once more: Bloodborne was not mentioned during the State of Play.

“Days Gone remastered?” remarks a Reddit post following today’s presentation. “Where’s Bloodborne????”

Sony didn’t even approve a sequel for Days Gone because it was deemed unsuccessful by their criteria, yet they remastered that before Bloodborne,” asserts another frustrated fan.

Hours earlier, gamers were in a more cheerful mood, less accusatory. They might have been strolling down the street while whistling tunes by Yuka Kitamura and savoring ice cream cones, perhaps. They were jokingly implying that they headed into the State of Play “with nothing but fantasies,” as one post on Twitter stated.

The most troublesome aspect of fantasies, I declare as someone who once believed her La-Z-Boy was haunted, is what occurs when they shatter: disappointment. You think I didn’t want a specter hanging out with me on the couch? You think I lack FromSoftware‘s bloody 2015 masterpiece receiving a bit more appreciation?

However, I must remain realistic. The game wasn’t referenced in tonight’s State of Play, nor was it mentioned at any of the State of Play events in 2024. Indeed, Bloodborne – which marks its 10-year anniversary in just over a month, I declare with tears in my eyes – hasn’t been a priority for PlayStation in years.

So why do we continue to torment ourselves over a 60fps remaster that even veteran Sony experts claim is highly unlikely? What are we doing here, everyone?

I agree it’s time for us all to embrace radical acceptance. In this case, which means that I express things and you also accept them.

Weekly summaries, stories from the communities you cherish, and more

First: PlayStation showcasing “persistence” with a clip of Bloodborne gameplay in its 30th anniversary trailer does not guarantee that the publisher intends to reward our hard work. It merely points to the fact that PlayStation executives have muted many of our social media accounts.

Secondly: PlayStation issuing DMCA takedowns to every the Bloodborne Kart developer and 60fps Bloodborne mod developer does not imply the company plans to create its own PS5 remaster with complimentary Mario Kart-style DLC thrown in as a birthday gift. It signals that game corporations may indeed be quite stingy with IP.

Third: While Bloodborne’s tenth anniversary in March could lead you to believe that PlayStation is preparing something significant to celebrate, I urge you not to dwell on it. Rather than getting all flustered as you often do, stay present. Enjoy an apple. Open the window instead of getting so upset when reality doesn’t unfold the way you’ve envisioned it. Or better yet, play Bloodborne and relish the wonder of 30fps.
