Alan Wake 2 Achieves Success as Sequel Enters Full Production Phase
Alan Wake 2 has started to generate revenue for developer Remedy following its achievement of 2 million sales globally. The title has already recovered development costs and marketing expenses.
The Finnish studio revealed this information in its financial report for the year ending December 31, 2024.
It mentioned that Alan Wake 2 experienced “notably heightened activity” around October 2024, coinciding with the launch of the Lake House expansion and a physical edition of the game. These developments were succeeded by the release of a PlayStation 5 Pro update in November.
Control, which debuted in 2019, has now reached over 4.5 million units sold worldwide, with 600,000 units sold in 2024 alone.
Speaking about its broader project lineup, Remedy confirmed that Control 2 entered full production earlier this month after the studio affirmed the progress of asset creation and established necessary pipelines.
Max Payne 1&2 is currently making “steady progress” in full production and is on track to achieve significant development milestones.
FBC: Firebreak, a multiplayer shooter that serves as a Control spin-off, will enter full production and complete a closed technical test with external players in December. Remedy is also expanding its self-publishing team with an aim to launch the title in 2025.
Remedy aiming for ‘substantial commercial success’ by 2030
Regarding the company’s financial performance, Remedy reported a full-year revenue increase of 49.3 percent year-over-year to €50.7 million ($52.6 million). The company recorded an annual operating loss of €4.3 million ($4.4 million), which reflects an improvement from the €28.6 million ($29.6 million) loss documented during the previous fiscal year.
Remedy anticipates revenue and operating profit growth during 2025 and aims to achieve “sustainable, substantial commercial success” by the end of the decade.
“We have two well-established proprietary franchises, Control and Alan Wake, which are interconnected through the Remedy Connected Universe. Remedy will self-publish upcoming titles, holding the IP. Developing and enhancing these two franchises will be essential to our future. Additionally, we collaborate with the Max Payne franchise, originally created by Remedy,” stated the company while discussing its long-term prospects.
“By 2030, we aspire to be a respected creative studio with sustainable, significant commercial success. We have set the following financial targets: 1) To double the 2024 revenue by 2027 with continued growth thereafter and 2) Achieve an EBITDA margin of 30 percent by 2027 and maintain that minimum threshold throughout the strategy period.”
