We are hopeful that Change 2 will bring forth a bold new technology for Star Fox — it has been nearly a decade — but, if McCloud and company are otherwise occupied, at least everyone knows that one of the franchise’s imitators will be debuting on the upcoming hardware.
The game of 2023, FUR Squadron, proudly displayed its Star Fox influence, with its vibrant, flying animal rail shooting showcasing a significant resemblance to the beloved Nintendo series. Its sequel, FUR Squadron Phoenix, was released early last year, and developer Raptor Claw Games has confirmed this week that it will be available on Change 2.
The developer has hinted that the original FUR Squadron will be playable on the new Nintendo console thanks to the system’s backwards compatibility in the past, but the most recent tweet specifically mentions that the sequel is “Coming to PC and Switch 2 this year.” So, it’s yet another title to add to your list.
Moreover, it appears quite impressive. Much like its predecessor, this is an on-the-rails shooter where you guide a group of anthropomorphic pilots through a series of combat missions. This installment promises a roguelike game structure, skill trees, unlockable dialogues via the crew’s “friendship” system, and more.
