Blind Squirrel Video Games Expands Horizons with Acquisition of Colombia’s Dispensed Development
Presented by Blind Squirrel Games.
Game developer Blind Squirrel Games has ventured into Colombia by acquiring the service-oriented Distributed Development for an undisclosed sum.
The newly formed branch, now named Blind Squirrel Colombia, will initially focus on collaboratively developing games for its parent organization. Eric Herrera will continue to oversee operations as the studio director, and the workforce is projected to grow “significantly” to between 25 and 30 staff by the end of 2025.
In the announcement, Herrera highlighted that his team has previously collaborated with Blind Squirrel on projects such as Age of Darkness: Final Stand’s multiplayer component. He expressed that these partnerships “demonstrated that a formal alliance would be mutually advantageous. In addition to our studio projects, we eagerly anticipate playing a key role in nurturing and fostering talent within the area.”
Distributed Development’s proprietary AI tool a significant factor
Prior to the acquisition, Distributed Development collaborated with clients like Microsoft on advanced software engineering. Blind Squirrel aims to utilize the proprietary AI tool developed by the studio in Manizales, Colombia, designed for Unreal Engine, hoping it will “enhance project efficiency, simplify development, and assist the company in delivering top-notch gaming experiences while optimizing resources.”
Besides Colombia, Blind Squirrel has teams located in California, Texas, and New Zealand. The latest acquisition is part of “[our] strategy to continuously scale development efforts and engage with new talent pools worldwide,” stated Blind Squirrel.
Well-known for co-developing State of Decay 3 and Warframe Mobile, Blind Squirrel is also working on its own original games again. Cosmorons, an arcade shooter set to launch later in 2025, marks its first independent project since the Early Access release of Drifters Loot the Galaxy.
