The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Collector’s Edition (2024)

The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Editions were not the only premium hardcover editions of Tolkien’s beloved saga released in 2024. In late October, William Morrow published The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Collector’s Edition with a staggering price tag of $325. Currently, Amazon offers this exquisite collection for $206, which, while still pricey, is more than $100 off the listed price.
Do not confuse this collection with the series of Tolkien Illustrated Editions—which we will link to below—this box set is a remastered edition of the 1992 hardcover release and features artist Alan Lee’s stunning illustrations of Middle-earth.
The collection includes over 50 new illustrations and artworks. It consists of three volumes, one for each book in the trilogy, and has a total page count of 1,332. The hardcovers are made from cloth and leather, adorned with silver lettering and embossed designs. It also includes an elegantly designed slipcase, three art cards, and two fold-out maps crafted by Christopher Tolkien.
The Tolkien Illustrated Edition of The Lord of the Rings, on the other hand, showcases 30 full-color illustrations and maps by the author. It is a beautifully crafted hardcover book with red-stained edges featuring ornamental Elvish text, two fold-out maps, a ribbon bookmark, and gold foil embellishments on the cover. Collectors may also be interested in the special Deluxe Special Edition of the Tolkien Illustrated Edition.

The 2024 editions of The Lord of the Rings were released concurrently with the very first publication of Tolkien’s collected poems. This extensive 1,728-page, three-volume set encompasses works composed over seven decades. Tolkien had a lifelong passion for poetry, originally aspiring to be a poet rather than a renowned novelist.
In total, this collection features 200 poems, many of which focus on Middle-earth. Over 60 of these poems were unpublished until now, making this a unique opportunity to read previously unseen compositions by Tolkien. The poems are accompanied by commentary from two prominent Tolkien scholars regarding the poems and the author’s life.
