Deadrop creator exhausted its financial resources following a respected employee’s departure
The developer of Deadrop, Nighttime Society, has shut its doors.
The studio announced the decision on January 30 via a post on social media, resulting in 55 employees being laid off.
“We are actively searching for other gaming companies that might be interested in providing job opportunities to our skilled team members,” it stated.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of our community supporters and [are] truly regretful for failing to achieve our primary objective.”
Level designer Brad Boice shared on LinkedIn that the team [received] only a two-day warning before the announcement was made.
“The crew at Midnight Society received our two-day notice that the studio has run out of funding and everyone must pack their things and leave,” Boice wrote. “All my colleagues at Midnight Society were incredibly talented at what they do and [are] now without jobs. I believed we had much more financial support left.”
Last September, Nighttime Society experienced a wave of layoffs due to “several unexpected obstacles in recent months.”
In June, the developer indicated it might be parting ways
