Traveling on the initial highways until you arrive at a festival may not seem like the most obvious concept for a management-centric RPG, yet that’s precisely what Keep Driving is all about. You will have a vehicle to maintain and enhance, a route to traverse in a procedurally generated starting environment, a collection to rearrange, and choices that will arise along the way. For instance, will you pull over for the eccentric, barefoot runaway bride signaling for help? After a lengthy journey to release, it is finally set to debut on February 6.
One of YCJY Games’ two primary developers took to Reddit to announce the launch date, describing it as a “management and road RPG about reflecting on the past while moving ahead, much like any memorable road trip.” He elaborated on some elements featured in the trailer below: “During your travels, you’ll encounter hitchhikers with their own narratives and skills that aid you in strategic, turn-based combat. You’ll personalize and mend your car, take on unique tasks, and explore alternative routes. Expect substantial resource management, as each action consumes something (energy/items/money/time), necessitating careful planning regarding your advancement on the journey.”

Keep Driving evidently stems from the collaboration of two friends (along with one “amazing sound designer”) who began this project a few years back. However, there’s a strong possibility you might already be familiar with or played the game yourself. Our own Dustin Bailey discussed chugging two liters of soda to survive an all-nighter with an N64 game in his trunk during the game’s colorful Steam Next Fest demo, which garnered over 70,000 downloads and resulted in more than 170,000 wishlists. The Steam demo for Keep Driving remains available to play ahead of its launch this week, too.
