For Xbox Series X and S

Ubisoft has declared that its 2019 first-person shooter Far Cry New Dawn will likely receive a 60FPS enhancement in the next few days. Initially part of Microsoft’s FPS Boost initiative, that feature has now been discontinued as the team develops a native performance patch for the game on the latest-generation consoles.

This announcement seems to have been intended to align with New Dawn joining Xbox Game Pass early next week, but the information leaked earlier – prompting Ubisoft to officially confirm it. We suspect the temporary FPS Boost removal led to this early revelation.

This follows a very similar path to Far Cry 5. That game was also initially an FPS Boost title on Xbox platforms before Ubisoft released a dedicated 60FPS patch for it. Not only does a native update benefit PS5 players, but it also enhances the experience on Xbox Series X, since FPS Boost generally reduces resolution to achieve a higher frame rate.

We will soon find out what the final resolution figures for Far Cry New Dawn will be, but regardless, this native performance update is excellent news overall. Ubisoft’s sequel to Far Cry 5 arrives on Xbox Game Pass on February 4th, and you can discover why we believe it’s worth playing down below.
