GTA 6 Now now not going To Walk At 60FPS On Xbox, Says Feeble Rockstar Dev

GTA 6 May Not Achieve 60FPS on Xbox, Claims Former Rockstar Developer

“I believe they’re going to aim for 30fps”

We have mentioned it before and we will reiterate, GTA 6 could potentially be the highlight of the Xbox Series X|S generation, particularly considering the extended anticipation surrounding its release. However, that might also imply it may demand significant resources from current-gen hardware, and a former Rockstar developer has come forward stating that 60FPS is not really feasible on console.

Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast (as cited by GamesRadar), ex-Rockstar animator Mike York believes that “they’re aiming for 30FPS” with GTA 6, adding that “from my experience, they’re going to extract every possible ounce of performance and then optimize later for 60 frames.”

This experience stems from, well, a number of years spent within the renowned GTA studio. York contributed to both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, and even though he is no longer part of the team, the former developer believes that only post-launch optimization, an AI upscaler, or a prospective PC version will deliver 60FPS gameplay for GTA 6.

“I don’t think so. I believe they’re going to aim for 30FPS – a stable 30FPS, which means it will never drop below that. They will try to optimize as much as they can so that it never goes under 30.

But it could potentially be boosted to 40, 41, 52, whatever, and I bet that later, once it’s on PC, it will likely be extensively optimized and adjusted with new graphics cards coming out, so you might be able to run it at 60FPS at that point.”

This reasoning makes a lot of sense to us, although we still do not know exactly what the team is planning. GTA 6 might be Rockstar’s first challenge on current-gen hardware using cutting-edge technology, and we must remember that even the last-gen RDR2 is not truly 60FPS on Xbox Series X|S as of yet. Ultimately, we will have to wait and see later this year – GTA 6 is slated to launch on current-gen consoles sometime in 2025.
