Eastern Ratings Authority Calls for Revisions in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The ability to enable or disable amputation has been entirely eliminated.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows may undergo censorship in Japan upon its launch in March 2025.

As explained by developer and writer Ubisoft in an announcement, there may be “variations in content” between the Japanese version and the editions released in other countries, even though the game has received a CERO Z rating, equivalent to a mature/18+ classification.

The CERO board of Japan confirmed that, while players in Europe and North America will have the ability to toggle amputation on/off, Japanese players will find that “the option to enable or disable amputation via game settings has been removed,” meaning “amputating the neck and limbs of foes during gameplay is now permanently disabled.”
