Baldur’s Gate 3 Unveils Exciting Patch 8 on PS5: What Players Need to Know

UPDATE 8pm: After the unintentional release of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s forthcoming Patch 8 for PS5, Larian has shared additional information and a recommended solution for impacted players.
In a post on the Baldur’s Gate 3 website, Larian elaborated on today’s mistake, stating, “Our partners have confirmed that some regions wrongly received the Patch 8 build as an update to their current game version, in anticipation of the Patch 8 stress test.” The update, they noted, was “only available for a few hours” and is no longer accessible.
For those who did acquire today’s download, Larian cautions that this version is not supported and will not be updated until after the stress test, when Patch 8 is ready for its full release. It also mentions that affected players may encounter compatibility issues with mods and will not be able to access multiplayer while trying to join users on Patch 7. Therefore, it is advised to revert to Patch 7 by uninstalling and reinstalling Baldur’s Gate 3.
Unfortunately, the studio also confirms that saves created using the Patch 8 build will not be compatible with Patch 7, and they “cannot guarantee that saves from this version will remain compatible when Patch 8 is launched.” Consequently, players will need to revert to an earlier build if returning to Patch 7.
Lastly, the company highlights that players who received today’s unintended update are not necessarily guaranteed access to the stress test. The test is expected to begin this week, with invitations sent out to successful applicants in waves.

Patch 8, officially the last major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, is not scheduled to be released until Larian conducts its upcoming closed stress test. Consequently, players on PlayStation 5 were quite unexpectedly surprised to see the game update to version 1.800.00 earlier today – and it appears the studio was similarly caught off guard by this development.
“No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet commenced,” they acknowledged in a frustrated post on Bluesky. “Yes, PS5 players currently have access to Patch 8. While we work with our partners to understand what happened, please be aware that any new saves created while on Patch 8 will not be compatible.
