Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Movie Set to Sprint into Theaters, but Fans Will Have to Wait
We were already aware of the approximate timeline for its arrival, thanks to Paramount’s announcement at the end of last year. However, the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film now has an official release date. Still, it is quite some time away – Sonic’s next major cinematic venture is not set to debut until March 2027.
More specifically, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is – as noted by Variety – projected to arrive in theaters on March 19, 2027. No additional details have been disclosed, but we certainly have a fairly good idea of who will join the Sonic team in the fourth installment.
Throughout its three previous films, the Sonic movie franchise has developed a tradition of featuring a significant character cameo during its credits. The first Sonic film briefly introduced Tails, who is set to return in the second Sonic film, while Shadow the Hedgehog made an appearance during a mid-credits scene in Sonic 2. As for the recently released Sonic 3, it made it quite evident [SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS] that Amy Rose will be joining the action – oversized hammer in hand – for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 [END OF SPOILERS].
Regardless of where the storyline takes us next, it seems unlikely that Sega and Paramount will conclude the franchise when Sonic the Hedgehog 4 premieres in 2027. As mentioned by Variety, Sonic 3 proved to be a remarkable success upon its release in December, garnering $422 million at the global box office so far – a figure that officially marks it as the franchise’s highest-grossing entry to date.
Eurogamer’s Ed Nightingale was also impressed by last year’s film, describing it as an “authentic Sonic adventure with added Keanu flair” in his four-star review.
