Late last year, Microsoft revealed its ambitions to transform Edge into the preferred browser for PC gamers with the first look at the Microsoft Edge Game Assist. This is a special variant of Edge specifically designed for gaming, featuring overlays and windows that appear above games, allowing players to access guides and tips as needed. Now, Microsoft Edge Game Assist has moved beyond the initial testing phase and is available for everyone to use.

Game Assist appears to be inspired by Steam’s overlay browser. It can also recognize when certain supported games are running and provide pertinent information on a sidebar. Currently, the supported games include Marvel Rivals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, these are not the only titles that can be played. Any game can be accessed in this mode, but only the supported titles will have automatic guides available. The video below illustrates how the Game Assist is intended to work.

Players can access this functionality by launching Microsoft Edge and navigating to Settings and more to install the Game Assist widget. Once set up, the Game Assist feature will be available within the Game Bar. Since Game Assist shares data with Edge’s browsing information, players’ favorites, browsing history, and cookies will all remain unchanged.

According to The Verge, Game Assist is still technically in preview and support for additional titles will be added in the future. This is yet another element of Microsoft’s ongoing gaming objectives, which include plans to integrate all PC games with Xbox features into the Xbox app. Late last year, Microsoft also initiated a test pilot program for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream some games they own on Xbox consoles.
