Updating the 2025 calendar
As we draw nearer to the debut of the Xbox Developer Direct showcase this Thursday, we thought it would be a great moment to reflect on the numerous release dates that could be revealed at the event.
We already have a sense of what’s in store, obviously – DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and an undisclosed fourth game. All of these have the potential to receive release dates at the event, and there may even be an outside possibility of a surprise reveal reminiscent of what transpired with Hi-Fi RUSH back in 2023.
Xbox has already verified that DOOM: The Dark Ages and South of Midnight are aiming for 2025 launches, so this event seems like the perfect opportunity to officially slot them into the calendar. However, that’s not guaranteed – titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed did not secure confirmed dates at last year’s showcase.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, then, appears to be the most likely candidate to receive a date since it’s not technically an Xbox first-party title, which means it doesn’t have to compete for a solid spot among heavy hitters like Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and whatever else Microsoft has lined up for 2025.
They can’t leave us completely in the dark, right? Even if it’s not an exact date, can we at least get a month for DOOM and South of Midnight (as well as whatever that fourth game may be)? It would be fantastic to know if we’re looking at early, mid-year, or late releases for these titles, especially considering that GTA 6 is still aiming for a late 2025 release as it stands. We certainly wouldn’t want these games to be doomed right out of the gate by competition with Rockstar!
