Anticipation is growing as the release of Monster Hunter Wilds approaches next month. However, one significant question looms over everything: what improvements in performance has Capcom been developing since its somewhat shaky public beta? The developer has now provided a brief update on performance, along with confirmation that they are “exploring” the possibility of reducing the recommended GPU requirements for the game on PC.

The initial public beta of Monster Hunter Wilds launched last October, and it quickly became clear that there was still work to be done regarding performance. Players swiftly took to social media to highlight everything from erratic framerates, even on reasonably powerful PCs, to troubling visual glitches that made the entire experience feel reminiscent of Capcom’s earlier platform, the N64.

At that time, the developer attempted to remind players that Monster Hunter Wilds was “still in development,” assuring them that the full game was “already in a better state compared to the beta test” and that they were “dedicated to ensuring the quality of the final product.” Fans held hope that these enhancements would be visible in Monster Hunter Wilds’ second open beta, scheduled for February 7th to 9th, but Capcom recently confirmed this would not be the case.

The company has now provided a brief update on performance, with Monster Hunter‘s official German social media account recently stating (via Google translate) that the team “has been addressing rendering issues from the open beta test and is continually working on enhancements for launch.” This update was accompanied by a video showcasing what Capcom described as a “look at our updated Prioritize Performance mode for PS5,” although it wasn’t particularly revealing due to the less-than-ideal quality of X’s video player. The Prioritize Performance mode (also known as Prioritize Framerate) aims for up to 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X, as opposed to 30fps when utilizing the Prioritize Graphics mode.

Capcom also noted that it aims to enhance PC performance in a “similar manner,” and that they are also “investigating whether we can reduce the recommended GPU requirements.” The developer raised some eyebrows last September when it revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds would require an RTX 2070 Super/RTX 4060/RX 6700XT to achieve 60fps (with Body Generation) at 1080p, so it’s clear there will be improvements coming—especially following the beta’s issues.
