Hideki Kamiya Responds to Recent Leaks: A Call for Accountability in Gaming Community

Okami, Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry 2 creator Hideki Kamiya has expressed his views on leakers after Nintendo’s official reveal of the Switch 2.

In a series of posts on social media, he launched into a bit of a tirade, asserting that “those who facilitated leaks” or shared any details about the new system will face being “cursed for the remainder of their lives.” It’s somewhat vulgar at times, yet it is not totally out of character for Kamiya, and it is fascinating to hear a developer’s stark opinions on a matter like this:

Hideki Kamiya: I hope that all those who leaked Switch 2 information/those who aided in the leaks will be cursed for the rest of their lives to always remember stepping in poop on the soles of their shoes when they get home…
…Having enjoyed the surprise announcement of Okami with all the fans, I sincerely believe that… all those troublesome leakers should be condemned…

The dreadful leaker merely acts for his own gratification and selfish pleasure; not only does he contribute nothing to anyone’s benefit, but he incurs all kinds of opportunity losses and has accomplished nothing to be proud of in front of others. He is the lowest form of scum, deserving to be covered in filth from head to toe and cast out of society… and then left to ponder and wander forever…

These disgraceful leakers are in a position of responsibility where they have access to information that only a select few actually know, yet their actions are nothing more than a manifestation of a disgusting craving for validation that lacks any sense of rationale; they are contemptible individuals, so it is not the creators whose secrets have been exposed that ought to be blamed, but these vile people, who must be punished as swiftly as possible…

As noted, a sequel to Okami was announced last year, and fortunately, for Hideki and his team, it wasn’t revealed prematurely – which truly enhanced the surprise of the significant reveal for not only the developers but for fans of the original game as well.

Just yesterday, former Nintendo employees Kit and Krysta shared their thoughts on how Nintendo may be feeling about the leak. As we have already highlighted here on Nintendo Life, as intriguing as the Switch 2 reveal has been, it has indeed turned out to be exactly what everyone expected in light of the leaks.
