PlayStation has decided to terminate two live-service games, one of which was allegedly set in the God of War universe.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Sony acknowledged the cancellation of the two live-service titles—one from Bend Studio and another from Bluepoint Games. The game Bluepoint was developing was reportedly a live-service God of War title.

Sony also affirmed that even though the studios are not shutting down, it cannot confirm if these cancellations will lead to layoffs. Nonetheless, Sony is collaborating with the studios to define their upcoming projects.

Last year, Bend Studio indicated it was developing a new intellectual property, but it is unclear if this is related to the now-canceled project. Sony acquired Bluepoint Games, known for the PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls, back in 2021. The studio reportedly assisted with God of War Ragnarok from 2020 to 2022 prior to the cancellation of its next project.

PlayStation’s live-service strategy has yielded mixed results thus far. While Helldivers 2 enjoyed significant success and received numerous awards, Concord was a notable failure, ultimately leading to its permanent shutdown and the closure of developer Firewalk Studios.

Sony also canceled its multiplayer game based on The Last of Us in December 2023, just months after Bungie, the studio behind Destiny (which was acquired by Sony), assessed its ability to engage players for the long term.
