Unveiling the Shadows: The Tomb Awaits in Call of Duty: Dark Ops 6’s New Zombies Chapter
As Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 prepares for the release of Season 2 on January 28th, the developer Treyarch has revealed initial details regarding the upcoming Zombies mode map, The Tomb – which immerses players deep beneath the surface into ancient catacombs.
“As the speculation suggests,” Treyarch elaborates in a blog post on the Call of Duty website, “a British archaeologist named Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe conducted an excavation at the site back in 1908 with high hopes. While no one can definitively say what happened to him, a few photographs from his ill-fated expedition have recently come to light…”
Continuing from the events at Citadelle des Morts – the third Zombies mode map of Black Ops 6 introduced during Season 1 – The Tomb features characters Weaver, Gray, Carver, and Maya as they follow Gabriel Krafft’s last words to a nearby excavation site while searching for the Sentinel Artifact. From there, the adventure goes downward – deep into long-hidden catacombs built over an ancient burial ground, and perhaps even further.
Treyarch indicates that The Tomb has been crafted to offer a similar experience to Zombies mode’s Liberty Falls map, featuring more confined gameplay areas with an emphasis on replayability. It also promises “numerous” Easter Eggs and a redesigned Surprise Weapon inspired by the franchise’s heritage. More specific gameplay information will be disclosed as The Tomb’s release approaches, but for now, the studio has announced a variety of other enhancements coming to Zombies mode in Season 2.
These include a highly-anticipated co-op pause feature which, as its name indicates, allows a party leader to pause the game during play, provided all players are in the same group. Additionally, loadout retrieval for players rejoining a session after being kicked while AFK is being implemented, along with various Field Tracker and Strategy Completion improvements, and the ability to configure separate HUD setups.
