Stray Kite Studios—an independent game developer comprising veterans from BioShock, Borderlands, and Age of Empires—has unveiled the first glimpse of the studio’s debut original title, Wartorn. As illustrated in the trailer below, this game immerses players in the journey of two elven sisters striving to survive long enough to reconnect with their family, facing some challenging decisions along the way.
Combat will play a crucial part in their journey, but it may not be the only aspect that determines their fate. Stray Kite mentioned that the sisters will “face moral challenges and contend with both external and internal threats.” Fortunately, they will not be powerless in this narrative-driven world.
“Wartorn invites players to traverse the tumult of a fractured world while discovering meaning and joy in altruism,” stated Paul Hellquist, the creative director of Stray Kite Studios, in a statement. “We have invested our passion into crafting a game that not only entertains but also prompts players to reflect deeply on sacrifice, survival, and the connections that bind us.”
The studio also highlighted the destructible environments and the dynamic combat system that empowers players with the elements of water, fire, and electricity. Wartorn’s roguelike progression system will provide upgrades, items, and new abilities that can carry over.
