Number of job reductions is no longer detailed

Throughout 2024, Microsoft executed significant job reductions across various departments including Xbox, and a recent report suggests that this workforce trimming is far from concluding as we enter the new year.

Originally disclosed by Business Insider (paywalled) and then reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft is said to have dismissed a large quantity of workers this year – impacting its gaming, security, and sales departments.

According to the customary source, a representative from Microsoft confirmed that these reductions would impact a small number of employees, but did not proceed to clarify how many positions would be affected this time. This is distinct from another round of layoffs reported by Business Insider last week, although it remains uncertain whether these cuts pertained to Xbox.

The past year has been notably bleak in terms of job cuts within the gaming industry, including at Microsoft. The Xbox parent initiated 2024 by releasing 1,900 workers following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, before further reducing 650 jobs in September. We wish every individual affected by job losses at Microsoft to find new opportunities swiftly.

Once again, please feel free to share your thoughts on this report below.
