After the remarkable triumph of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the rights holder, Games Workshop, is concentrating on preserving that momentum with their upcoming title.

As first highlighted by GameSpot, CEO Kevin Rountree mentioned in the company’s latest financial report that their achievements in the gaming industry can be credited to both “well-established franchises” and the “success” of Space Marine 2 specifically. He also seemed to acknowledge the unique niche that Warhammer has cultivated within the gaming landscape.

“We understand that victories like these for Warhammer are not guaranteed in the gaming industry. Clearly, we are in search of the next one. We remain prudent when projecting royalty revenues.”

Although it just launched in September, the full extent of Space Marine 2’s success has yet to be gauged, but as of October, it had sold 4.5 million copies. To put that into perspective, the Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive stated shortly after launch that the game’s accomplishment was significant enough to “change everything” for the developer, adding at the time, “you view yourself through a different lens.”

To gain insight into why Space Marine 2 has become such a significant triumph, you could do worse than to check out our 4/5-star review, which remarks:

“Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is an outstanding, larger-than-life shooter that elevates the standards for all Warhammer adaptations. A breathtaking sense of scale and some of the most polished combat available will leave you frequently breathless yet always smiling.”

2024 was the year I rekindled my passion for shooters – and it’s all thanks to Stalker 2, Black Ops 6, and Space Marine 2.
