As the Wanderer, you will encounter numerous local lords, generals, and outcasts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. One character, the young physician Yuanhua, seems intrigued by the Wanderer’s loss of memory, and he aims to discover a remedy. If you accomplish the tasks he lays out for you, you will unlock a variety of useful skills. The Dynasty Warriors: Origins Search for Memories or Shards of the Past quest (we use these terms interchangeably) commences just a few hours into Chapter 3. Following a brief cutscene, Yuanhua requests to have a discussion. He then assigns a series of tasks that require you to locate an area on the map based on clues.
Initial memory and Bravery Increase perk
After completing a few battles early in Chapter 3, a cutscene plays where the Wanderer recalls a meeting with fellow Guardians Zhuhe and Bailuan. Immediately after this cutscene, you will receive a new unlockable perk for your skill tree.
Reward: Bravery Increase (perk) – Enhances your bravery gauge by +1.
Search for Memories world map
After obtaining the initial perk reward, you can find Yuanhua near the town of Ye—that is, close to the mountainous region that leads to the village with cherry blossoms. This is when the Dynasty Warriors: Origins Search for Memories quest truly begins.
The aim is to meet with Yuanhua whenever he has a task for you. Then you must venture to a specific location to gather an herb that he needs. The map above illustrates the locations of these herbs mentioned in the tasks.
Task #1: In Search of Billow Balm
Herb location: For your first task, simply head over to the fields east of Puyang.
Reward #1: Vitality Pill (consumable) – Restores half of your health.
Reward #2: Peacebringer (combat art) – Summon a ring of light. Beams of light and other natural elements will explode from the ring, launching enemies into the air.
Task #2: In Search of Moongrass
Herb location: Just travel to the riverbank south of Wan Fort.
Reward #1: Stamina Pill (consumable) – Restores your bravery.
Reward #2: Moongrass farming (action) – Moongrass nodes will now appear on the map, enabling you to farm them. Moongrass can also be used in crafting two random gems.
Task #3: In Search of Arborgreen
Herb location: This part of the Dynasty Warriors: Origins Search for Memories quest becomes available early in Chapter 4. To find this herb, head towards Xiapi Fort and cross the bridge that leads south. Then turn east from Shouchun and examine the rocky plains.
Reward: Incense of Vitality (consumable) – Restores 70% health for you and nearby allies.
Task #4: In Search of Crimson Cress
Herb location: This herb can also be found along the path just east of Beihai.
Reward: Fried Mountain Tuber (consumable) – Fully restores your health.
Task #5: In Search of Thistle of the Dawn
Herb location: This item can be found on the eastern shore of the lake near Qu’a.
Reward #1: Porridge (consumable) – Fully restores your health.
Reward #2: Ice Luan (special art) – Unleash a shockwave of ice capable of freezing and displacing enemies.
Final reward: Musou Rage
If you deliver the Thistle of the Dawn herb to Yuanhua, he indicates that a cure is nearly prepared. All you need to do is progress further into the campaign until you’re nearing completion of Chapter 4. Eventually, you will be asked to return to the village with cherry blossoms. There, a cutscene will play, where the Wanderer learns more about his past.
Reward:
