Severance features Patricia Arquette and Tramell Tillman hinting at heightened tension between Cobel and Milchick in the upcoming season 2 – and we’re absolutely looking forward to it.

“Well, he’s essentially taken over my role. It’s as if he has usurped my position and I feel quite hurt and resentful about that. You know, I thought he truly cared. I believed he appreciated my contributions, but it turns out I offered him this chance and mentorship, and then he quickly overshadowed me. So I believe there’s a significant emotional wound for Harmony towards Milchick,” Arquette shares with GamesRadar+.

Arquette portrays the enigmatic Harmony Cobel, who, in the first season, acts as the supervisor for the severed sector and appears to be a tad too indoctrinated into the culture of Lumon and the doctrine of Kier Egan. Mr. Milchick, portrayed by Tillman, is the overseer of the severed division – and is responsible for that memorable waffle event dance sequence. Although both are committed to Lumon, they occasionally clash in what viewers will perceive as a power struggle – however in season 2, Milchick emerges victorious in that struggle – and we may discover that there’s something more profound and sinister beneath the surface.

“It’s fascinating because we observe that Milchick has now assumed a different position and is now in a leadership role that he has never held before and he has to make the decisions,” Tillman explains. “And with Cobel out of the frame, you know, he lacks that immediate mentor, that direct guidance he previously relied on. So there’s this uncertainty about whether he can manage all of this, and what the implications of leadership are, alongside what he learns about himself and the company throughout this journey.”

Don’t forget that Cobel took a bit of a rebellious turn at the end of season 1, driving off in her vehicle to who-knows-where. Her outie, who pretends to be the seemingly mild-mannered neighbor Ms. Selvig, appears to have left Lumon behind. It’s also important to mention that, despite possessing innie and outie identities, Cobel and Milchick are not severed.

“I believe there’s a lot more revelation regarding Cobel and how her innie self and her outie self conflict, as well as what prepared her for this role from her early experiences,” Arquette remarks. “I think with the stakes raised, the motivation becomes significantly more intense. There’s a sense that we are all working toward a specific goal without revealing too much. We are striving for something; there’s a target, right? Failing to meet that target could lead to serious repercussions. I’m not aware of what those repercussions are, but just like any other corporate structure, we must achieve our objectives and meet the deadlines.”

“So there’s this urgency for Milchick to keep everything on track so we can meet our goals,” adds Tillman.

“I mean, when you rise within an organization or assume greater responsibility, there’s no one else to hide behind anymore. In the first season, he could lay the blame on me for mistakes or poor decisions I made,” Arquette continues. “There’s significantly more visibility when you transition into that next tier and this corporation is a
