Fortnite Competition, the concert-themed rhythm-action component of Myth Games’ free-to-play multi-genre phenomenon, is set to introduce local co-op support next month – stirring up fond memories of endless nights spent strumming away in Rock Band with friends.

Not surprisingly, it is worth mentioning that Fortnite Competition is developed by Harmonix, the creators of Rock Band (which Myth Games acquired in 2021), and it strikingly resembles the studio’s beloved previous games, right down to its support for guitar-shaped plastic instruments.

Myth has now announced that, starting on Tuesday, January 14th, Fortnite Competition will get significantly closer to capturing the social essence of those exhilarating Rock Band days, allowing several players to perform together in the same space – but exclusively on Xbox and PlayStation. The company hasn’t disclosed many specifics just yet, but judging by the highly detailed, Snoop Dogg-featured trailer it released to unveil the new feature, it appears to support local co-op for up to four players, in addition to allowing the simultaneous use of two plastic guitars.

This represents the first significant new feature for Fortnite Competition this year and follows Myth’s announcement last December that it would persist in supporting its rhythm game through “2025 and beyond.” These commitments were made after revealing it would not be rolling out themed updates for Fortnite’s Rocket Racing, which has struggled to maintain player engagement since its launch alongside Fortnite Competition and Lego Fortnite in 2023.

The introduction of local co-op support for Fortnite Competition on January 14 aligns with the launch of the mode’s latest Snoop Dogg-themed content.
