G.rev, the Asian studio known for various shooting games like Kokuga and Border Down, has announced that it’s bringing yet another unique arcade shooter to the Switch with Strania -The Stella Machina- EX set to launch digitally on 23rd January.

Originally released on Xbox 360 and in arcades by exA-Arcadia (utilizing its ROM cart-based system that allows operators to load up to four games on a single cabinet), Strania -The Stella Machina- is an unprecedented shoot ’em up experience, where you can pilot a massive mech to engage in an interstellar conflict. The twist is that you get to choose which side you battle for, allowing you to stand with the heroes or the villains.

The EX version arriving on Switch includes additional features such as new gameplay modes (a rebalanced ‘Standard’ for newcomers, alongside a mode simply labeled ‘Hell’, which we think is pretty self-explanatory), enhanced graphics, and a choice between the original and a remixed soundtrack.

Revealing the news on Twitter, Strania producer and G.rev president Hiroyuki Maruyama stated that the team “chose to concentrate solely on the Nintendo Switch to guarantee the optimal experience for gamers”, promising that the title will deliver “an unforgettable adventure”. You can read Maruyama’s full statement below:

It seems this title will likely be digital-only initially, so keep an eye on the eShop later this month for a chance to check it out.
