Season 1: Eternal Night Falls on January 10, and it likely wouldn’t be a solid season launch without a multitude of balance adjustments to refine the game’s ever-changing meta.
In a blog entry, developer NetEase shared some of its perspectives regarding the forthcoming enhancements and adjustments to the game, indicating its aim to modify certain heroes with the goal of “allowing a broader selection to engage in more complex gameplay, ensuring a richer, more captivating, and diverse gaming experience for everyone.” They elaborated on various team compositions and strategies players are currently using and seem pleased with what they refer to as a “vibrant diversity of lineups.” This roster is anticipated to shift with the introduction of the Fantastic Four this season, featuring heroes Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman joining the line-up from the season’s start.

Regarding the adjustments themselves, there are several enhancements and reductions to heroes across all roles, including a substantial number of changes to Duelist heroes. Notable damage dealers Hawkeye and Hela are being scaled back, with Hela’s health slightly decreased while Hawkeye will not be inflicting as much damage at greater distances. Conversely, Black Widow (considered one of the game’s least-picked heroes according to NetEase) is receiving numerous buffs. Moon Knight’s ultimate ability will likely be more effective in Season 1, whereas Psylocke’s will likely be less potent as it will have to penetrate enemy shields as well. Storm is getting much-needed buffs, enhancing her projectile.

NetEase notes that Hulk, in particular, has been “overpowered,” and is adjusting his gamma shield cost due to this.
Most Strategists, the support heroes in Marvel Rivals, are receiving various enhancements, but Luna Snow and Mantis are encountering nerfs. Mantis is losing some mobility from her Nature’s Call passive ability. Meanwhile, it will now take Luna Snow longer to alternate between damage and healing during her ultimate. Jeff the Land Shark, Rocket Raccoon, and Cloak & Dagger are all getting buffs to their healing abilities, as well as modifications to make it easier to identify who can be devoured by Jeff’s ultimate.
Modifications are on the horizon for many of the game’s team-up skills, despite not being overly significant. NetEase specified that they did not wish to implement extensive changes for Season 1 but are currently preparing “exciting redesigns and adjustments” as part of Season 2.

Although there are some variances between competitive and ranked play, characters like Peni Parker, along with almost every Specialist hero, are positioned at the top of the rankings (which is understandable given that there are fewer Specialist heroes compared to Vanguard or Duelists). VANGUARD
Captain America
Steve will gain improved survivability, enabling more frequent entries and exits from battle.
– Decrease the wait time for shield recovery after using Shield Toss from 3 seconds to 2 seconds.
– Shorten Liberty Rush cooldown from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
– Increase maximum health from 650 to 675.
– Reduce the energy cost for executing Liberty Strike (ultimate ability) from 3400 to 3100; lower the additional health provided per second to self after using it from 110 to 100.
Doctor Strange
We’ll be reducing the threat range and enhancing the protection window of the Sorcerer Supreme.
– Introduce damage falloff to Maelstrom of Madness and Gamma Maelstrom. Starting at 5 meters and decreasing to 70% at 8 meters.
– Slightly lower the shield recovery rate after using Shield of the Seraphim from 80/s to 70/s.
Thor
The God of Thunder could certainly use a bit more survivability and an improved success rate for his ultimate ability.
– Increase maximum health from 500 to 525.
– Added immunity to control effects during God of Thunder (ultimate ability).
Hulk
Dr. Banner has been exceedingly strong, but a reduction in sustained combat ability upon entering the arena will align him more with other Vanguards.
– Lower the Indestructible Shield gamma shield cost for Hero Hulk from 250 to 200.
