Lenovo Introduces Legion Rush 2 and Rush S: A New Era in Handheld Gaming with SteamOS Integration
The Legion Rush S is set to debut this month.
While some manufacturers of portable gaming PCs are striving to dominate the absurdly large market segment, Lenovo has managed to introduce several new – and significantly more portable – devices of its own, including the Legion Rush 2 and a handheld that runs on SteamOS.
Starting with the Legion Rush 2, this is Lenovo’s latest handheld gaming PC currently in prototype stage, which – along with its integrated kickstand and ergonomically enhanced detachable controllers – features an 8.8-inch OLED display with VRR support and is equipped with either the upcoming AMD Ryzen Z2 or Ryzen Z2 Pro. It can also support up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage, further enhancing its robust capabilities.
Unfortunately, there is no indication of a release timeline or pricing for the Legion Rush 2 just yet, as Lenovo has chosen to focus its efforts on its other recently revealed handheld gaming PC: the more modest and imminently available Legion Rush S.
The Legion Rush S presents a sleeker alternative to Lenovo’s new Legion Rush, eliminating the detachable controllers in favor of a more rounded all-in-one design. It boasts an 8-inch, 16:10 IPS LCD multi-touch screen (offering a 120Hz variable refresh rate and a resolution of 1920 x 1200), complemented by hall-effect thumbsticks, a reimagined D-pad, and dual-stage triggers.
As for its internals, the Legion Rush S is equipped with either an AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z1 Pro processor and can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. All of this is housed within a 299mm x 127.6mm x 22.6mm chassis and weighs over 730g – approximately 90g heavier than the Steam Deck. Lenovo informs The Verge that it aims for a battery life of two to 2.5 hours for demanding games.
The initial model of Lenovo’s Legion Rush S will start shipping this month, priced at £649.99/$729.99 with the Z2 processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. A more budget-friendly variant with lower specs will follow in May, priced at £600/$599.99, featuring the Z2 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Both versions operate on Windows 11, but Lenovo is also developing a SteamOS-powered version of the Rush S, making it the first officially licensed third-party handheld.
