Arrowhead’s Vision: A Sneak Peek into Their Next Epic Creation Following Helldivers 2

The Chief Creative Officer of Arrowhead Game Studios is already involved in the development of the team’s upcoming title following the tremendous success of Helldivers 2.

Johan Pilestedt, the CEO and creative director of Helldivers 2, recently took to social media to inquire what players’ “anticipations and wishes” are for the next project the studio is working on – potentially even alongside its acclaimed shooter.

“I am conceptualizing the core idea, but I would appreciate your input,” he tweeted. “Core idea” likely pertains to fundamental themes he is exploring, and it seems that a significant amount of work is occurring which might not yet involve the entire studio, indicating that we may not receive updates on Arrowhead’s next endeavor for a while.

Fans of Helldivers 2 had a wealth of ideas. Some suggested that Arrowhead might be preparing to develop a dynamic, on-rails combat simulator featuring the Noble Earth’s Eagles, who typically provide support for divers and unleash large explosions on the hapless bugs and robotic foes in the game. There’s also a possibility to officially recognize the Eagle-1 pilot, who has inspired countless fan artworks. Additionally, Arrowhead previously developed a prototype for a Star Wars TIE Fighter game, so this genre wouldn’t be too far-fetched.

Others imagined single-player Helldivers spin-offs, revivals of Killzone, or additional PvE-focused multiplayer games for those who find competitive shooters a tad too intense.

Two weeks ago, Pilestedt mentioned that Arrowhead is effectively progressing towards a third installment in its popular series with the ongoing support for Helldivers 2.

“We are evolving Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3,” he stated. Recently, Helldivers 2 introduced an entirely new enemy faction that changes gameplay, additional biomes, and much-requested features like melee weapons in its Omens of Tyranny update. With a few more of these updates, it appears that the game’s post-launch support could be substantial enough to warrant a complete sequel. The only question remaining is whether it will release during or after the ongoing run of Helldivers 2.
