A game designer behind The Rise of the Golden Idol has unveiled his own title, City of Voices. This project is a collaboration between his studio, Kimi Games, and pixel artist Matt Frith. It is promoted as being similar to “Rise of the Golden Idol.”
According to the game’s Steam page, it centers around a young girl in England who faces bullying at school. City of Voices starts out as a typical slice-of-life adventure before transforming into something more fantastical. Like in The Rise of the Golden Idol, players will need to investigate clues that are frozen in time in order to piece together the events that have transpired.
Designer Will Ackermann mentioned that he has already reached out to the other developers of The Rise of the Golden Idol, Andrejs and Ernests Kļaviņš. Ackermann received their approval to borrow similar deduction gameplay mechanics from the game for City of Voices.
He elaborated in a statement, “I was a bit apprehensive about asking Andrejs and Ernests, who co-created those games, for their consent to essentially take their mechanics, but fortunately, they were flattered!”
Currently, City of Voices has only been announced for PC, and a release date has yet to be disclosed. In GameSpot’s Rise of the Golden Idol review, we stated, “A decrease in murder lowers the stakes, but The Rise of the Golden Idol remains a creative detective game where deductive reasoning is key.”
