Kojima’s Xbox Title ‘OD’ Faces Challenges Due to Strikes in 2024

In a post shared by Hideo Kojima himself, the iconic game developer has given various updates on his studio’s ongoing projects – some clear and others less assured. Concerning Kojima Productions’ Xbox title OD, while progress has been made throughout 2024, it appears that the project faced several notable challenges in the later part of the year.

In the post, Kojima stated that “we developed the game [OD] and conducted actor and environment scanning,” but in the latter half of 2024, “scanning and filming were halted due to the SAG strike.” Ultimately, Kojima mentioned that the team “hopes to resume” development on the project in 2025.

“Thank you for all your support in 2024. It was a year filled with many events: DS2 development, the release of our second trailer, ADR for the actors, music production and recording, and Japanese voice recording. In the summer, we began to playtest and refine the game. We also managed to host a TGS stage event for the first time in 5 years.

For OD, we developed the game and conducted actor and environment scanning. In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were paused because of the SAG strike. Casting was also put on hold for Physint due to the strike. We aim to resume next year.”

Back in September, an interview with Kojima provided our latest insight into this still-mysterious Xbox project. The Metal Gear Solid visionary stated that OD is “a game unlike any other” and that “it’s a bit daring and a new challenge for me in the gaming world.”
