We all recognize Stardew Valley has been an extraordinary hit ever since it debuted on PC in 2016. Nonetheless, it continues to perform remarkably across various platforms, and as of December 2024, has achieved a truly significant milestone.

The farming simulation game has now sold 41 million copies, as reported by ConcernedApe on the official Stardew Valley press page. While the majority of those sales come from PC — 26 million — the Switch received a notable mention, with an additional 7.9 million copies sold.

Let’s consider those figures briefly. Back in February, ConcernedApe announced that the game had shipped over 30 million copies. That means, within 2024 alone, Stardew Valley has sold roughly 10 million copies.

This also indicates that, over the past year, Stardew Valley has surpassed classics such as Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tetris (on Game Boy), Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Wii Sports Resort. It’s now the 15th best-selling game of all time.

For sure, it’s available on nearly every console out there, and it’s also quite affordable at under USD $15, yet achieving 41 million copies in 8 years is extraordinarily commendable.

A significant factor in the increase in sales in 2024 could likely be attributed to the recent free update, which was released on Switch in November 2024. Version 1.6 introduces new events, a fresh farm layout, additional pets, an entirely new mechanics system, and much more. It’s probably the best update yet, especially considering that 1.5 introduced Ginger Island. Plus, it’s free.

Although ConcernedApe may be taking a moment to relax, he is diligently working on his next game, Petrified Chocolatier, which will be released… sometime soon!
