One Arcane author had continually envisioned that a standard character from the adored vibrant series would make its way into League of Legends, the immensely popular game that serves as the source material for the show.
Arcane writer and producer Amanda Overton emphasized this point during an interview with this site here (GamesRadar+), specifically mentioning Mel Medarda as a strong candidate due to her formidable magical abilities. “I believe we were all, in the writers’ room, thinking ‘we’re creating something extraordinary and distinct here – hopefully, fingers crossed, they’ll incorporate her into the game.’ That was always our aspiration—that some of the characters from the show would transition to the game and vice versa,” she stated.
No typical Arcane characters have returned to Riot Games’ MOBA yet, but there’s significant reason to believe that might change soon. Mel’s mother, Ambessa, just joined the fray recently, and leaks suggest that Mel herself may not be far behind—she could potentially be League of Legends’ first new character of 2025, although Riot Games has yet to officially confirm anything.
“We always envisioned that Mel would be a mage and that her character arc would develop in this way, and we also consistently knew what her abilities would entail,” Overton elaborated, before explaining that the team was on the same page.
