FTC Begins Distributing Refunds to Account Games Customers After Settlement Reached

The Federal Trade Commission in the US has initiated the process of reimbursing consumers affected by Account Games’ alleged deceptive practices that led to unauthorized purchases.
More than $72 million will be dispatched in reimbursements, with the average sum being approximately $114, as stated by the FTC.
The agency mentioned that it is currently distributing a primary batch comprising 629,344 reimbursements (with half being checks and the remainder being PayPal transactions), noting that the remaining reimbursements will be sent “at a later time.”
This is part of a settlement reached in December 2022, where Account was instructed to pay over half a billion dollars to resolve allegations from the FTC.
This includes $275 million for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and $245 million for relying on deceptive practices “to mislead consumers.
