We value it when an idea comes together

2024 has become the year that Microsoft has officially begun discussing its plans for the next-generation console, and now we have some fresh updates regarding who’s contributing to the development of new hardware for Xbox. Jason Ronald, who played a crucial role in designing and launching the Xbox Series X|S, has been appointed as ‘VP of Next-Generation’ at Microsoft.
This announcement comes from The Verge, which this week disclosed that Ronald is expected to participate in a panel focused on “the future of gaming handhelds” next month – further suggesting what Xbox may have planned for the upcoming generation.
While the specifics of what exactly Ronald’s role will entail for Xbox’s ‘next-gen’ remain unclear, we know that Xbox President Sarah Bond is leading the team’s endeavors towards developing a new console generation for Microsoft. It’s likely that Ronald is collaborating with Bond to bring everything together for future Xbox hardware in the coming years.
Additionally, as previously alluded to, one of these next-gen devices is likely to be some form of handheld Xbox. Phil Spencer has already confirmed that the team is working on a portable unit, and with Ronald set to attend this handheld gaming panel at CES 2025 next month, it seems the team is well on their way to developing this device for the new generation – alongside a robust Xbox Series X successor for sure!
